Interesting Facts
A California ground squirrels burrow can provide shelter for tiger salamanders snakes and burrowing owls. Rabbits and grey foxes expand their burrows to use as dens. When a California ground squirrel is frightened they warn other predators with an alarm call. California ground squirrels wave their tails when they see a snake to tell them to stay away. If the snake still comes after the ground squirrel the ground squirrel will attack it to protect their young.
